Ato Cherinet Hordofa is a prominent attorney in Addis Ababa. He has a diverse teaching, researching and practicing experience in civil, commercial and criminal cases, both before the Federal and State Courts. He is a part-time lecturer at Addis Ababa University Law School and served as a Federal First Instance Court judge for five years since 1999. Cherinet has several publications. He co-authored a book on Criminal Litigation and Sentencing, published in Amharic. He also co-authored articles entitled “Over-Criminalization: A Review of the ‘Special’ Penal Legislation and Penal Provisions in Ethiopia”, and “When the Expert Turns in to a Witch: Use of Expert Opinion Evidence” which appeared in the Journal of Ethiopian Law, including his forthcoming article “Governing Through Criminal Law: Historicizing the Instrumentality of Criminal Law and Institutions in Ethiopian Political Power”.
